Experiencing the movie is essential for our discussion time together. Reading the book CASTE: THE ORIGINS OF OUR DISCONTENTS is helpful but NOT necessary.
A brief synopsis: ORIGINS is a biographical drama film by writer-director Ava DuVernay. Isabel Wilkerson, contending with tragedy in her own life, sets off on a journey of self-discovery and inspiration to craft her award-winning book, CASTE: THE ORIGINS OF OUR DISCONTENTS.
From Robert Daniels on RogerEbert.com:
“ ORIGIN isn’t a perfect movie. But the character of a truly great film isn’t found in its perfection. Rather it arises from how the narrative moves, challenges, and hugs the heart. Rich in thought, “Origin” is a dense, forceful masterwork, and, quite simply, the most radical film of DuVernay’s career.”
